Senior EHS Specialist, APAC

A company specializing in Manufacturing & Production is looking for a Senior EHS Specialist, APAC.

My client is a multinational corporation produce specialty chemicals, with more than 6-7 countries in Asia and 3+ plants in China, Japan and South Asia. It is a leading global producer of specialty chemicals, including the pulp, paper, oil and gas, chemical processing, mining, biorefining, power and municipal markets.
Location: Shanghai

Purpose/Role of the job
Develop and implement Environmental, Health, Safety and Security policies, procedures and programs across assigned region while driving continuous improvement in safety, environmental and chemical security compliance and performance.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide EHS support to manufacturing plants, Supply Chain operations, Technology and Commercial operations and other functions in North Asia.
  • Drive Corporate EHS Objectives & Targets, facilitate periodical review and update.
  • Implement Corporate EHS programs and monitor program effectiveness.
  • Develop regional programs and procedures to support compliance and risk control.
  • Alignment of regional programs, policies and projects with global EHS initiatives.
  • Communicate and influence regional plant managers and site EHS professionals.
  • Monitor EHS regulation change, identify and assess non-compliance risks and drive company zero incident and zero spill culture.
  • Enhance regional EHS compliance, coordinate external audits and conduct internal EHS audits, maintain Responsible Care requirements in the region and ensure RC certification
  • Organize and deliver trainings to the SC team and commercial team.
  • Participate in EHS meetings, inspections and JSA at plants and labs to drive safety improvement.
  • Organize safety activities for commercial team, i.e. customer site safety inspection, sales safety day, defensive driving training & assessment, JSA, fire extinguishing training, etc.
  • Engage sales, equipment and other commercial leaders to improve safety awareness, visit customer site to conduct risk assessment and JSA, support commercial team on incident and near miss reporting, and investigation with root cause analysis tools, track follow-up actions to complete.
  • Act as RC coordinator and maintain RC/ISO14001/45001 requirements/certificates as applicable.
  • Coordinate regional administrative support on EHS online system and database.
  • Implement contractor safety management, conduct waste vendor audit, support sourcing/PT to manage toller EHS requirements, maintain third party EHS programs including logistic vendors and external warehouses.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental or Engineering or Safety Engineering.
  • Certificate on Safety based programs would be a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of RC/ISO/OHSAS management systems requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of China EHS regulations relevant to the chemical industry.
  • Multiple years (5+ years) of EHS experience in chemical industry, experience in chemical plant is necessary.
  • TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Familiar with safety programs including chemical management, Hazardous Waste management, JSA, Behavior Safety, Fall Protection, Hot Work, Confined Space, Line Breaking, Lockout Tagout, Defensive Driving, Industrial Trucks, Process Safety Management.
  • Highly accountable: solution-, results- and action-oriented.
  • Self-starter with ability to think and act independently and to make sound recommendations.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Fast learner with a flexible style and the ability to adjust to changing priorities.
  • Create/improve safety culture for a matrix organization.
  • Responsive to business needs/issues.
  • Good verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interface with internal and external contacts at all levels and in different countries.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Good English Language skills.
